One Direction to Dominate D.C.’s Verizon Center
Washington, D.C.’s Chinatown is about to withstand an English invasion. Luckily, this time around, the British are coming in peace and melodic harmony in the form of One Direction, five UK boy-banders scheduled to perform at the Verizon Center next summer. About the Verizon Center
The Jonas Brothers, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, The Black Keys, Coldplay, Beyonce, and Britney Spears are just a few of the megawatt stars to have performed at the Verizon Center since its inception in 1997. Although first and foremost a sports arena – for the Washington Wizards (basketball), Washington Capitals (hockey), the Georgetown University men’s basketball team, and the Washington Mystics (women’s basketball) – the venue has also housed WWE wrestling matches and, in 2009, a special event hosted by first lady Michelle Obama: “Kids’ Inaugural: We are the Future.” In other words, One Direction will soon cross the same stage as several very renown, talented and big-deal personages.
