After several mixtapes, singles and cameos, Lil Uzi Vert gained mainstream recognition after the release of his first studio album Luv is Rage 2. Dua Lipa

This London-based pop star broke through in the US earlier this year following the release of her self-titled debut. Her first single in the states, “Blow Your Mind (Mwah),” became one of the year’s hottest dance singles, and Lipa would go on to tour with Bruno Mars and Coldplay before announce a headlining trek of her own. Bryson Tiller

Although Bryson Tiller’s first studio album was well received both critically and commercially, it wasn’t until his guest spot on Rihanna’s “Wild Thoughts” single (and a spot alongside The Weeknd on Legend of the Starboy Tour) that Tiller started becoming a household name. Khalid

Nineteen-year-old Khalid went from relative obscurity to announcing two headlining tours within a year of each other. All because of his hit song “Location,” which peaked at number 2 on the US R&B chart last year. The track segued into his über successful debut album American Teen, which features singles “Young Dumb & Broke” and “Saved.” Khalid Tickets

SZA

With three EPs under her belt before recording her first full-length album, it’s no surprise that SZA’s Ctrl was a mega-hit upon its arrival. In 2017 alone the R&B singer/songwriter collaborated with Maroon 5, Lorde and Kendrick Lamar, toured alongside Bryson Tiller, and embarked on a headlining trek of her own. Post Malone

Post Malone made his Sound Cloud debut in 2015 when he uploaded his seminal “White Iverson” track, which went viral overnight. The instant popularity of the song snowballed into a recording contract, collaborations with Kanye West and 50 Cent, and an opening slot on Justin Bieber’s Purpose tour. Logic

Conscious rapper Logic has been making albums since 2014, but it wasn’t until his single “1-800-273-8255”–a song about mental health awareness–went viral that he became a household name. Julia Michaels

Julia Michaels is the classic example of a hit songwriter turned star. After penning lyrics for the likes of Demi Lovato, Fifth Harmony and Gwen Stefani, Michaels finally released her first solo single “Issues.” The tune would go on to earn her a 2018 Grammy Award nom for Song of the Year, and a spot on Niall Horan’s Flicker World Tour.
