Paul Simon Tribute Concert
The lineup for the March 31 Paul Simon Tribute Concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City is rounding into its final form, and fans who have been anticipating the tenth annual tribute arranged by City Winery owner Michael Dorf have quite the show ahead of them. Joy Williams of The Civil Wars, Jon Herington of Steely Dan, soulstress Bettye LaVette, and Bob Mould of Husker Du are all scheduled to be there to pay homage to one of music’s true living legends at a landmark stage like Carnegie in New York. Considering the history of these shows, which have seen Bruce Springsteen & R.E.M. grace the stage for encores at their respective tributes, longtime fans of the singer-songwriter are not crazy to cross their fingers in the hopes that Paul Simon will consider doing the same.

In addition to Springsteen and R.E.M., Dorf has staged tributes to Prince (led by house band for the night, The Roots), the Rolling Stones, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Bob Dylan, Elton John, and Neil Young over the last decade. With this tenth show in the series on the horizon, Dorf hopes that profits from this Paul Simon tribute concert will push the overall charitable donation raised over the one million dollar mark; that’s a remarkable accomplishment and testament to the drawing power of the artists highlighted by these shows. Simon is certainly worthy of his own installment given his nearly 60 years of songwriting and performing; yes, the earliest song he wrote that was eventually recorded by Simon & Garfunkel was penned when he was 12 or 13. If they plan on representing his whole career in a truly comprehensive fashion, ticket holders may want to prepare themselves for a six hour concert. We doubt a single one would complain.
