Keeping their steady stream of news coming, after releasing the first concert dates of the new year, Phoenix recently announced their new album’s title: Bankrupt!. Not a full tour yet, but it’s still an exciting something: Phoenix will play two shows in Nürburgring and Nürnberg, Germany, as part of the Rock am Ring & Rock im Pott music festivals June 7-9. We’ve got a few ticket links to those dates below, and be sure to check back here once the band announces a full-fledged concert schedule!
They hail from Versailles, FR, the site of Marie Antoinette’s decadent (and dangerous) avant-garde fashion risks; their lead singer is married to avant-garde film director Sofia Coppola; and they take their name from a mythic bird who could be called ‘avant-garde’ for the way his cyclical regeneration always keeps him one step ahead… of death. In other words, when word got around Phoenix’s new album would be an “experimental” record – an avant-garde release, if you will – no one was really all that surprised. Fans were, however, more than a little excited when the head of Glassnote Records announced the band had finished their untitled seventh effort, and were considering an April release.
As we’re in the (ticketing) business to know, a new album often means one thing: a new promotional tour. It’s been almost four years since the quartet released and performed new material, 2009’s Grammy-winning Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. Although they received their award for Best Alternative Album, American mainstream audiences were treated to an earful of the group’s song “Lisztomania,” which popped up in trailers for Alice in Wonderland and Valentine’s Day, as well as on TV shows “CSI,” “Entourage,” “One Tree Hill” “Royal Pains,” “Cougar Town,” and “Vampire Diaries.” We’ll have to wait to see whether Phoenix’s eschewing of Wolfgang’s pop in favor of unspecified stylings will satisfy their fans – but we can be sure to provide ticket links once they officially release 2013 tour dates!
