UPDATE: Montreux Jazz Festival

The Montreux Jazz Festival, an annual music festival in Switzerland held annually in early July in Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline, is the second largest annual music festival in the world after Canada’s Montreal International Jazz Festival.

This year festival organizers have announced that, similar to 2007 and 2009, Prince will headline three of the nights with a concert at the Auditorium Stravinski on July 13 through July 15.

He’ll have new music to play, as if read our blog below, he has been revealing new music over the past several weeks.

Tickets for the festival are on sale now.

UPDATE: More New Tunes

The Purple One likes to wet the appetites of his fans for sure. As he did with “Screwdriver” below, Prince has released another new track this week entitled “Breakfast Can Wait.”

You can buy a digital download at his webstore. “Screwdriver” on the other hand is set to be officially released on February 11.

We’ve been giving you a ton of news on Prince, so here are two key reminders. A tour may be in the works since he auditioned new drummer hopefuls at live gigs in Minneapolis in January (see below for details). Also, the original focus of our Prince stream is the fact that he is set to be honored at a March 9 charity tribute concert in New York City that will see the likes of D’Angelo, The Roots and Talib Kweli perform songs from his catalog.

With the news of tribute concerts and his own public auditions for a drummer in Minneapolis, which were actually live shows as well, Prince has been in the news quite a bit over the past few weeks.

The latest little nugget comes with the release of a new single entitled “Screwdriver.” There is still no news of a new album but rumors of a potential tour are buzzing around, especially with the above mentioned shows/auditions in Minneapolis at the Dakota Jazz Club.

For now, check out the lyric video for the new track.

Prince – “Screwdriver”

In what has become typical of Prince performances, attempts to keep them secret have been always thwarted. Add last minute gigs in Minneapolis THIS WEEK to that list. The Minnesota born and bred Purple One tried to keep six shows at the Dakota Jazz Club Wednesday through Friday here in Minny on the sly but the news is out there and guess what, the shows are already SOLD OUT!

According to website Dr. Funkenberry and Pollstar, the shows are actually drummer auditions for Prince & The New Power Generation with fun. having rented out Paisley Park for rehearsals.

We’ll try to get up ticket links, so keep checking back below for deals on tickets.

Who doesn’t love a good mystery? Sherlock Holmes? Of course! Columbo? Why not?! The Bermuda Triangle. Don’t go there, you’ll disappear in your boat!

How about a little purple musical mystery? Purple as in Prince that is. There is a ton of buzz going around the internet about the release of a new sing entitled “Same Page Different Book” on a mysterious Twitter account named 3rd Eye Girl believed to be from the Minnesota-based funk, soul and R&B legend.

New Prince music is always good by me, so if this is a sign that more new tunes are to follow, earbuds rejoice!

Check out the music right here and take a guess for yourself. The original link was taken down, so I had to find another one out there. Case solved!

More acts have been added to the high-profile Prince tribute concert slated for March 7. The Roots and Talib Kweli will pay homage to the one-named great-one at Carnegie Hall, lending their star power to a night of classic rock n’roll for a timeless cause: helping the kids.

Tickets are on sale now, so be sure to scroll through our list of discount links below!

Prince Benefit Concert NYC

Michael Dorf, New York-based philanthropist, entrepreneur and festival organizer, is putting his talents to good use once again. On March 7th, he has organized a tribute to Prince at Carnegie Hall. The proceeds of the concert will be donated to various charities to benefit music programs for underprivileged youth. (Thanks for looking out for the youth, Mr. Dorf.) Twenty, to be announced, musicians are slated to play, but the question remains: Who better to play Prince’s music than Prince himself? We shall see…
