R. Kelly & Mary J. Blige Announce “King & Queen” Tour
Calling all r&b royalty: R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige have just announced plans to hit the road together on the “King & Queen” tour. Not many details of the tour have been released (including venues and tour dates), but Kellz told New York City’s WBLS radio that this tour is a warm-up for his own “Black Panties” tour, to be held later on this year. Stay tuned for more information: with a voice like Mary J.’s and antics like R. Kelly’s, this tour is sure to be entertaining.
Born in the Bronx, Mary J. Blige started her career as a backup singer for Uptown Records. Luckily she was discovered, and since her first album (1992’s What’s the 411?), Blige has racked up nine Grammy Awards, eight multi-platinum albums, and a spot on the 2007 Time 100 list from Time magazine. Robert Sylvester Kelly, a Chicago native, also made his debut in 1992 with the group Public Announcement. His first solo album, 12 Play, was released in 1993. He’s won three Grammy Awards (all for 1998’s “I Believe I Can Fly”), sold over 40 million albums, and was named by Billboard magazine as the most successful R&B artist of the last 25 years.
