Railroad Earth Spends Winter on West Coast
Newgrass band Railroad Earth is sick of the colder months already, it seems—they’ve added some West Coast dates to their current winter tour. After stints in the Midwest, Texas, and the East Coast through February, Railroad Earth will stop in San Francisco, CA (at The Independent); Oakland, CA; Crystal Bay, NV; Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Solana Beach, CA (at the Belly Up Tavern for two nights); and Las Vegas, NV at Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas. On-sale times for the tickets haven’t been released yet—check the band’s website for more information.
Railroad Earth, based now in Stillwater, NJ, got their name from the Jack Kerouac short story “October in the Railroad Earth”. Their music combines elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, and jazz to form sound that’s all their own. Railroad Earth was formed in January 2001 when vocalist Todd Sheaffer, violinist Tim Carbone, mandolinist John Skehan, multi-instrumentallist Andy Goessling, drummer Carey Harmon, and bassist Dave Von Dollen got together on the same stage. Their first record, The Black Bear Sessions, was completed in June 2001.
