Robert Plant Presents The Sensational Space Shifters Touch Down in North America
North American Tour
In the days since Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant has had quite the mix of musical ventures. From early solo gigs to the pseudo reunion of Page & Plant, from his Grammy winning duo with Alison Krauss to a venture with the Band of Joy, he has kept busy making great tunes. His newest musical vision has manifest itself in the imaginative incarnation of a band that’s “everything that their name suggests“: The Sensational Space Shifters–a group of seven musicians with backgrounds as diverse (i.e. UK Punk, Bristol Trip Hop,and African Violin) as the music they’re playing.
Hot off a tour down in Australia, Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters have announced a whole host of show dates across the U.S. this summer. Things will kick off in Dallas, Texas at the Palladium in June and finish up at the end of July in Brooklyn at Prospect Park. Many of the shows are at outdoor venues and should make for some great summer concert going experiences. For performances nearest you, check out the schedule below.
British musician Robert Plant, best known for his work as lead vocalist and lyricist of the prolific rock n’ roll band Led Zeppelin, has announced he will embark on a tour of Australia in 2013. The shows are in support of his latest project, the Sensational Space Shifters, who formed earlier this year. News of the tour came after the announcement that Plant would be making appearances at the Byron Bay’s Bluesfest on April 9, and the West Coast Blues & Roots Festival on April 11, in Fremantle.
The four-date stint begins on March 26, at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, followed by a performance in Sydney. On April 3, the band will play a show at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, and after that it’s the tour finale in Launceston at the Silverdome on April 5. For those unfamiliar with the work of the Sensational Space Shifters, Plant has said they draw on “influences collected in a lifetime of meander and journeying,” and are inspired by the roots music of Mississippi, Appalachia, Gambia, Bristol and the foothills of Wolverhampton. Hmmm, sounds like the lyrics of a Zeppelin tune.
