As we here at SeatGeek pride ourselves in using analytics to help sports and concert fans find the best values on tickets to see their favorites live and in person, we’re big proponents of how data can be used to unearth new and valuable insights in the realm of sports. We’ve long worked to share our unique data on secondary market ticket prices and trends to help fans understand Linsanity’s impact on Knicks ticket prices, or which NBA games this season were least popular in terms of ticket price and demand.

When we saw the date announced for this year’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, we knew that we had to make the trip up from New York to Boston in March to partcipate, and we’re excited to be in attendance at this year’s conference (come say hi!). And as much as we’re drawn to the conference to hear about all of the great research, development and advancement in the world of sports analytics, another great attraction of the SSAC is simply the fantastic group of people it brings to one place. In true startup tradition, we felt like there was a void for a great event to help conference participants meet one another outside of the formal confines of the conference.

As such, SeatGeek is proud to be hosting a Sports.Media.Technology meetup on Thursday, March 1 – the evening prior to the start of the SSAC. We wanted to have a casual event where anyone interested in sports, media, technology or any combination of the three could get together to meet or hang out, so come and hang out with us if you’ll be in Boston Thursday night!

Also, thanks to Crown Publishing, the first 30 attendees to arrive at the meetup will recieve a complementary copy of Scorecasting, a new book by financial economist Tobias Moskowitz and Sports Illustrated writer L. Jon Wertheim that looks into some of the hidden statistical drivers that shape how basketball, baseball, football and hockey games are played, won and lost. More information on Scorecasting can be found at the book’s official website.
