Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings Give the People a Spring Tour
Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings Tour
While an artist’s return to the studio or the concert tour scene is always something to be excited about, the announcement of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings hitting the road in the spring of 2014 is the kind of music news for which we can all be truly thankful. This new Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings album, Give the People What They Want, was due for release and a supporting tour in 2013. However, Jones was diagnosed with cancer in early summer and had to put professional plans on the back burner in hopes of getting better personally. Well, Ms. Jones is now feeling better and the album is set for a January release. Following the album’s literal mission, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings will continue giving the people what they want over two months of tour dates stretching from early February into April.

Together in their current form since 2000, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings hail from Brooklyn and have been striving to revitalize the funk and soul that gave the 1960s & ’70s one of its signature sounds. By continuing to utilize the analog recording equipment which helped give that period a less finished sound than modern digital methods, the band aims to pay homage to and put a personal spin on the past while respecting the craft of their mentors. Some of Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings’ more mainstream claims to fame include being the backing band for Amy Winehouse, and as a featured act on Michael Buble’s album Crazy Love. This spring tour is a great chance to give yourself what you may not even know what you want: catch a Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings concert and trust this band to transport you back 50 years for a night.
