See Son Volt’s Sweeter Side With Mushy New Album + Tour
Son Volt Tour 2013
Son Volt, the alternative country group based out of St. Louis, MO, have announced plans for a new album and coinciding tour dates slated for this spring. The tour kicks off in Nashville, TN, on April 10, at the Mercy Lounge, followed by performances in North Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. On April 17, the five-piece band will play a show in New Orleans at The Parish. The tour wraps up on April 20, with a performance in Dallas, TX, at Sons of Herman Hall.
Son Volt’s upcoming album, Honky Tonk, will be released on Rounder Records on March 5. It’ll feature fresh sounds from the band, as frontman Jay Farrar learned how to play pedal steel guitar as inspiration for the new tunes. The album may also veer on the mushy side: According to Farrar, “I was always averse to using certain words in songs, including ‘love‘ and ‘heart,’ but I started using them on American Central Dust, and now I guess the floodgates have opened.” Ohhh, brother. According to a press release, the album will be a mixture of classic honky tonk and acoustic-based songs. Since the band’s formation in 1994, they’ve released a slew of albums and endured several lineup changes. Their most recent recording, 2009’s American Central Dust, received four out of five stars from AllMusic.
