It may be September, but funk/jazz band Soulive is already making plans for New Year’s Eve. They’ve decided to continue the tradition of playing a New Year’s Eve performance at the State Theater in Portland, ME, with the Rustic Overtones providing an opening act. Not in Maine but still want to see Soulive live? Not to worry—they’re playing shows at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, MA on January 2, and then moving down to New Haven, CT at Toad’s Place for a show on January 3. Tickets for all of these shows are on sale now, but they won’t be for long—scoop some up and ring in 2015 in sweet musical style.

Formed in Woodstock, NY, Soulive consists of Eric Krasno, Alan Evans, and Neal Evans. The band is known for its extensive improvisational solos and catchy, upbeat songs. They’ve released a whopping fourteen albums since 1999, including 1999’s Get Down!; 1999’s Turn It Out; 2001’s Doin’ Something; 2002’s Next; 2007’s No Place Like Soul; 2009’s Up Here; 2009’s Live in San Francisco; and 2005’s Steady Groovin’. Soulive has performed at a variety of festivals since their inception, including the Newport Folk Festival.
