Stephen Colbert Wants To ‘Rock(t)’ August With New Summer Concert
Because when you’re Stephen Colbert, you either go big, go home, or go oceanliner-sized parody: The Comedy Central comedian has announced the lineup to his “StePhest Colbchella ‘012: RocktAugustFest” summer concert, set to take place on the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum’s aircraft carrier Intrepid. Fun., The Flaming Lips, Santigold, and Grizzly Bear are all reportedly on board to share the NYC deck-stage August 10th.
The second-annual concert will followup 2011’s “StePhest Colbchella ‘011: Rock You Like a Thirst-Icane.” That particular homage/ripoff/legitimate seasonal show – featuring en vogue indie hitmakers Bon Iver, Jack White, Talib Kweli, and Florence and the Machine – was merely a dry precursor, however, to Colbert’s answer to the S.S. Coachella Music Festival At Sea, the luxury-cruise variation on the popular concert.
“We are gonna rock the boat, which won’t be easy because the Intrepid displaces 41,434 tons,” said Colbert. “Does Bonnaroo have cruise missiles? I think not.”
Neither does it reportedly have 1,500 free tickets at the ready for distribution. Check the official Colbert website for available freebies, and continue scrolling below for a peek at what you might expect to see at Colbchella ‘012:
