Arguably one of the most influential and positive role models in music, Taylor Swift is hard at work on her new album. On the heels of a wildly successful 2011 tour, Taylor has been readying a new album and continues to write heart on her sleeve songs. Her past relationships with Taylor Lautner (“Back to December”), Joe Jonas (“Forever and Always”) and John Mayer (“Dear John” & “The Story of Us”) have been the subject of some of her popular songs. Jake Gyllenhall looks to be the subject in her new album, as she told Vogue for the February 2012 cover:

“There’s just been this earth-shattering, not recent, but absolute crash-and-burn heartbreak and that will turn out to be what the next album is about…The only way that I can feel better about myself — pull myself out of that awful pain of losing someone — is writing songs about it to get some sort of clarity.”

Taylor Swift Biography

Taylor Swift was born in Reading, Pennsylvania (surprising, right?) to a mother who worked in finance and a father who’s a stockbroker. Music runs in her family as her maternal grandmother was an opera singer. Quite the prolific artist, she has written a 350-page unpublished book and has written all her own songs. She became enamored with the idea of becoming a country music singer and at the age of 14, her family relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. She was offered a deal from RCA for an artist development deal, however she rejected the deal, because she wanted to write her own music. It was a bold decision that paid off as she was later signed to Big Machine Records at 14, a subsidiary of Sony/ATV. Her country influence is evident even though she has reached over into mainstream pop.
