The Avett Brothers have been away for some while. The folk act haven’t released a new album since 2016’s True Sadness. And it’s been even longer since their radio success in “Kick Drum Heart” or those beloved early EPs. Lest you think the band is done for, the group are hitting the road in 2019.

The trek kicks off at Florida’s excellent St. Augustine Amphitheatre on March 7, before heading down to Tampa for Gasparilla Music Festival. From there it becomes a bit of an I-10 tour, with stops at the newly opened Fillmore in New Orleans, the Saenger Theatre in Mobile and the Revention Music Center in Houston. The tour does a few odd circles of the South before closing out with a three-day stand at the picturesque Red Rocks Amphitheatre. We have to be honest, the idea of the four-piece’s harmonies bouncing off the rock formations that surround that venue already have us a little misty-eyed.

Los Avetts shared a single ahead of the tour announcement, making it plain that this isn’t some ultra-early nostalgia tour. We’re willing to bet between now and the tour’s first date, the folky stalwarts will have a new album out.
