The Band Perry seemed like a conventional country family band. They made it big on a huge, sappy number that hit country radio square in the gut and followed with quite a few No. 1 singles in the same vein. Then, they opted to leave all that behind for a turn toward electronic pop.

While they’ve yet to drop a full album in that mode, it’s clear the band has been working. They just shared a new single called “The Good Life” and announced a fall tour of the same name.

The Good Life tour starts on October 12 at Charlotte, NC’s The Underground and hovers around the East Coast for about two weeks after. A string of Midwest dates includes stops at Chicago’s Vic Theatre and Newport Music Hall in Columbus. November finds The Band Perry in the Pacific Northwest playing Portland’s Wonder Ballroom before working their way through California. Though they’ve switched up their sound, old habits die hard and they’ll end their tour in Nashville on November 14.

The band’s frontwoman Kimberly Perry said that their new single is about coming back from a dark period, telling Billboard that she wrote it “during a toxic and incredibly difficult time in my life, but I’m singing it to you now with the voice of a woman who has completely regained a strong sense of self, rebuilt her womanhood, and is grateful to have learned so much.”
