The Dean Ween Group to Form, Hit the Road
The Dean Ween Group Tour
Though one half of Ween has retired his band persona (that would be Gene Ween, aka Aaron Freeman), the other half—Dean Ween, aka Mickey Melchiondo—isn’t quite yet finished. Melchiondo just announced plans for his new band, The Dean Ween Group, to take stages around the country this summer. New band members include Dave Dreiwitz, Joe Kramer, Ray Kubian, and Guy Heller. Though not much is known about the tour plans, it has been announced that the very first show of The Dean Ween Group will be played at Ottobar in Baltimore, MD on March 22. More dates for the spring and summer months will be announced shortly, in advance of a new album release.
“Dean Ween” Melchiondo met “Gene Ween” Aaron Freeman in junior high school typing class, and the two were not exactly fast friends. However, they began collaborating musically, forming the band Ween and their Ween personas, and, in a few years, found themselves opening for alternative acts like Butthole Surfers and Henry Rollins. Melchiondo also found success with the band Moistboyz, blending weird, offensive humor and social commentary, and he’s also a frequent collaborator with friend and Queens of the Stone Age singer and guitarist Josh Homme.
