The Decemberists ‘Make It Better’ With New Single, Tour
Buzz about The Decemberists’ seventh studio album, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World, has been gaining momentum for some time now—front man Colin Meloy started it all off by busking new songs in Williamsburg, Brooklyn last month. Now, the band has premiered a recording and video for the newest single, “Make You Better” (watch and listen below). The follow-up to 2011’s The King Is Dead, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World will be released January 20, 2015. Via a press release, the band also announced plans for a world tour—they’ll start in February with dates in Ireland, the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Belgium, German, Switzerland, and Italy before moving to the United States (those dates will be announced soon). Formed in Portland, OR, and comprised of singer Colin Meloy, guitarist Chris Funk, organ player Jenny Conlee, bassist Nate Query, and drummer John Moen, The Decemberists’ debut EP, 5 Songs, was self-released in 2001. The band is known for their folkloric songwriting, often adding historical incidents and long-winding narratives to their music. In 2011, “Down By The Water” off of the album King Is Dead was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 54th Grammy Awards.
