Felice Brothers: From Subway Platforms to Carnegie Hall
The Felice Brothers, a folk-rock band from Upstate New York, have announced that they will play a New Year’s Eve gig at Mercury Lounge in New York City. This show will come after their December 30 performance at Maxwell’s in New Jersey. Besides the two year-end shows, The Felice Brothers have various show dates spanning the end of September through December. You can even catch Ian Felice performing a solo set as the opening act for Conor Oberst at Carnegie Hall on November 21.
The Felice Brothers got their start the same way many struggling musicians do: As New York City subway performers. With two of the five members being brothers (Ian Felice and James Felice), the band would spend Sundays playing at their father’s barbecues. The band has been releasing albums since 2005, and through a multitude of tours and performing on the festival circuit they cultivated a following. Their 2009 album, Yonder is the Clock, peaked at No. 20 on the US Billboard 200, and their 2011 release, Celebration, Florida, peaked at No. 5. Not bad for a group of dudes who used to play in the Union Square subway platform.
