San Fran’s The Independent Marks 10th Anniversary with Roster of Shows
The Independent Tour
Known as a home and nurturing center for up-and-coming Bay Area musicians, San Francisco’s The Independent has a birthday (its tenth, to be exact). To celebrate, the decade-old venue will be hosting a run of intimate shows from February 19 to 26, with acts Allen Stone, DJ Shadow, Girl Talk, John Butler Trio, Rebelution, Two Gallants, Beats Antique, and Little Hurricane serenading fans for the club’s major milestone. Tickets to all shows are available right now for purchase.
Opening its doors in 2004 (the year of Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl NippleGate, the Thai tsunami, Britney and Madonna’s VMA kiss, the launch of Facebook, and the series finale of Friends), The Independent is a venue that has helped to cultivate a burgeoning music scene: acts like Tea Leaf Green, The Devil Makes Three, ALO, Brett Dennen, Thee Oh Sees, Tycho, and Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers began their music careers at the venue. Located in the NOPA District, The Independent isn’t just a music venue: on some Monday evenings, they host a free movie night (with a two-drink minimum, of course). Their schedule is diverse, with genres from indie rock and metal to electronica and reggae finding a slot on stage.
