Third Annual Tribute to The Last Waltz
It’s been 38 years since the original, but The Last Waltz by The Band continues to resonate with music lovers of all ages. A number of live tributes to the group’s final show, which was held on Thanksgiving in 1976 at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, pop up around the country during the year; for the third consecutive year, some of today’s most renowned jam artists will descend upon the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, to lay down their own version of the classic. The original performance was filmed by top-flight director Martin Scorcese and released two years later, featuring hits like “The Weight” and “Don’t Do It,” as well as appearances by other guest artists like Van Morrison and Eric Clapton.
This particular live version will occur on Thanksgiving Eve (November 26), and tickets just went on sale this past Friday. Twenty different acts are confirmed to take part, including Joe Russo, Sam Cohen, The Antibalas Horns and The Parkington Sisters. If Port Chester is a bit too far away for you to get your fix of The Band’s hits, we’ll keep updating The Last Waltz concert dates so you can catch one in a city near you!
