The Replacements Reunite For Riot Fest
The Replacements Tour 2013
Alt-rock pioneers The Replacements, to the delight of their many fans the country over, are officially reuniting for a series of shows this fall. Last year, Paul Westerberg hinted at the reunion in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, saying, “It’s possible. I’m closer to it now than I was two years ago, that’s for sure.” The possibility became definite when popular music festival Riot Fest announced the group would be appearing at its Chicago event early this September, as well as at its Toronto and Denver offshoots in late August and September, respectively.

It’s been 22 years since The Replacements last performed live together. The band briefly got back together this past October, when they recorded an EP, Songs For Slim, for their former guitarist Slim Dunlap, who had suffered a stroke. Although they don’t have any new material to promote for their latest round of shows – their last album, All Shook Down, dropped in 1990 – who knows what creative juices might once again stir over the course of the next several months. Tickets to a few Riot Fest shows are on sale now, but be sure to check back here to see if and when The Replacements take their reunion out on the road!
