Sonic Youth singer and guitarist Thurston Moore has just announced that not only will he be releasing a new solo album (to be titled The Best Days) in September, BUT he’ll also be touring the globe with an impressive assembly of musicians to jam with. The Thurston Moore Band includes fellow Sonic Youth alumni Steve Shelley and James Sedwards, and My Bloody Valentine’s bassist Debbie Googe. Moore and crew will kick things off on August 19 at Ocii in Amsterdam. From there, it’s on to performances in Portugal, Switzerland, Paris and then the UK. They’ll make it stateside to play the Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh on September 5 and then make their way up north to play Riot Fest Toronto on September 7 and the Rifflandia Festival in Victoria on September 12. They’ll cross back over the border and into the windy city to finish up at Riot Fest Chicago.

A founding member of the seminal American alt rock band Sonic Youth, which was active for nearly 30 years and produced over a dozen albums (the band has been on “hiatus” since 2011, when Moore’s marriage with bandmate Kim Gordon ended), Moore’s additional musical endeavors have included an active solo career (he’s released three previous solo albums), a massive litany of collaborations and his other band Chelsea Light Moving.
