The xx Takes Up Residency in NYC
The xx Tour
English indie pop stars The xx have announced an 11-day, 25-show residency at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City. Booked in the open and versatile Wade Thompson Drill Hall, The xx have plenty of space to work with but intend to keep it intimate: each of the shows only has 40 tickets for sale at a box office rate of $55 per seat. March 19 will be the preview date for the shows, and every night will consist of two separate bookings (8pm/10pm) with three exceptions: March 22, 23, and 29 (all on the weekends), will consist of three shows each (6pm, 8pm and 10pm).
The xx made a splash on the scene in 2009 with xx, and their sophomore album Coexist was released in 2012 to the continued delight of fans and critics. The three current members – Romy, Oliver, and Jamie – have been together since 2006; at one point, The xx was a quartet, but former member Baria Qureshi was asked to leave in 2009. In addition to the acclaim they have received for their two albums, The xx has also received plenty of positive feedback for its live performances, including festivals like Bonaroo, Coachella and Lollapalooza and other NYC institutions like Radio City Music Hall. As established as The xx seems to be given the devotion of their fans, this young band is still discovering where it can go and what it can do. With a unique run of concerts like this one in their future, they have an opportunity to take fans to new places musically and explore their own direction as artists at the same time. We look forward to hearing just what The xx has in store for everyone in March.
