Trading in the noise and nosebleed seats of major arenas,Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have opted to embark on a tour of smaller venues, among them a few famous theaters, this spring. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Petty cited his and his band’s move away from the international touring circuit (a route they traveled to great effect in 2012) as something of a performance palette cleanser. “It gets the band members in tune with each other in a way that you don’t get on a big tour. There’s a different challenge than you’re used to.”
As a result of the group’s change of gears, fans in NYC and LA will have several chances to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers perform live in their hometowns. The band’s upcoming tour features one residency in each city, at the Beacon Theatre (the venue du jour for extended concert series) and The Fonda Theatre. The Manhattan dates are up first, with five shows slated for May 20, 21, 23, 25, and 26, to be followed by six June performances at The Fonda on the 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 11th of the month.
Petty and company have also scheduled a few one-off shows before and after their stays on either coast – including a stop at a little music festival called Bonnaroo. Tickets for a few of their upcoming concerts are on sale now, and don’t forget to check back here when more become available!
