With Hurricane Joaquin creating crappy commutes all along the Eastern Seaboard, it seems only fitting to put together a list of our favorite rainy-day tunes. Get your ponchos out, sh*t’s about to get real.

1. “No Rain” – Blind Melon

Ironically, this song all about “no rain” somehow evokes feelings of gloomy weather.

2. “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” – Missy Elliot

Beep beep, who’s got the keys to the Jeep? I think I left my umbrella in there.

3. “Kentucky Rain” – Elvis Presley

This long ballad is basically a lot of Elvis walking through towns in the pouring rain with wet shoes. Somebody get the King some galoshes.

4. “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” – Creedence Clearwater Revival

We’re assuming this song has some political undertones, but all we can think about the pretty rainbow that would form from rain on a sunny day.

5. “Fire and Rain” – James Taylor

One of James Taylor’s most famous songs, this emotional tune is about the suicide of his childhood friend, and his battle with drug addiction, depression and fame.

6. “I’m Only Happy When it Rains” – Garbage

If Shirley Manson is only happy when it rains, she should’ve probably stayed in the UK.

7. “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” – Bob Dylan

Though it was actually written months before the event took place, this Dylan track became known as a response to the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960s.

8. “Rainy Night House” – Joni Mitchell

Something about this song makes me feel weird and sad inside.

9. “The Rain Song” – Led Zeppelin

Rock n’ roll lore says the inspiration for this wildly popular tune comes from George Harrison. Apparently the Beatle once commented to Zeppelin drummer John Bonham that the band never wrote any ballads. And out popped “The Rain Song.” Suck on that, George!

10. “November Rain” – Guns N’ Roses

One of the few “serious songs” produced by Guns N’ Roses, at 8:57 this power ballad is the longest single in history to enter the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

11. “Purple Rain” – Prince

Arguably one of the most popular rock n’ roll songs of all time, this track has been covered by many but none can quite touch the original. (Sadly, the original is not on YouTube, so check out one of our favorite takes on the classic.)

12. “Rainy Days and Mondays” – The Carpenters

She’s just saying how we all feel. Preach, girl.

13. “Box of Rain” – Grateful Dead

Sure, a box of rain can ease the pain. But so can a box of wine.

14. “Singin’ in the Rain” – Gene Kelly

Gene Kelly is WAY too excited about singing and dancing in the rain. Go inside, you’re going to catch a cold.

15. “I Wish it Would Rain” – The Temptations

Somebody needs to get on Tinder, ASAP.
