In past years, we’ve looked at the best summer concerts in Chicago, and this year we’ve also examined the top summer concerts around the nation and near New York City. Coldplay topping our list should come as no surprise. They’ve always been a popular draw, and this summer has been no different, as their tour tickets have had an average resale price of $186, with tickets to some shows going for well over $250. They’ll be doing two performances at the United Center, and their fans seemingly can’t wait to see them.

Marc Anthony Chicago 2012

Marc Anthony coming in second seem a bit more surprising, but it shouldn’t. Marc Anthony Chicago 2012His Gigantes tour has been wildly popular this summer, with average ticket prices hovering right around $200, just as they are for his August 19th concert with Marco Antonio Solic and Chayenne at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

Neil Diamond Chicago 2012

Coming in at #3 is Neil Diamond‘s July 6th performance at the United Center. Like our top two performers, Neil Diamond’s summer tour has been pretty popular, with average prices coming in just a shade under $185 and with average tickets for his last two concerts going for $287.61 and $256.07 respectively.

Kenny Chesney with Tim McGraw and Empire of the Sun Chicago 2012

The very next day, Kenny Chesney will be having a huge performance at the Bears’ home of Soldier Field. The average price is $163.57, but fans who want to get cheaper tickets are in luck, as the cheapest tickets are going for only $76.

Barry Manilow Chicago 2012

And rounding out our top 5 is Barry Manilow, who will be performing on three straight nights, Thursday July 12th through Saturday the 14th, at the Chicago Theater. As you can see, ticket prices have been averaging a little under $160, but once again, cheap tickets are available. Tickets for the Friday performance are currently going for as little as $58 on the secondary market.

The North Coast Music Festival 2012

This is the third annual North Coast Music Festival, and as you can see it’s Chicago’s top music festival of the summer. The average ticket price for the three day event, which will be in Union Park from August 31st to September 2nd, is around $164, but frugal fans can get one day passes for as little as $78. Performers include Pretty Lights, Umphrey’s McGee, and Yelawolf, and you can check out the festival’s official site for full details and lineups.
