Progressive rock stars Umphrey’s McGee have added a slew of just-announced tour dates to their summer roster. They’ll kick them off with a stint in Charleston, WV, on July (the venue is yet-to-be-announced); and then move on through Charlotte, NC; Baltimore, MD; Bridgeport, CT; Burlington, VT; Hampton Beach, NH; Upper Darby, VA; Asbury Park, NJ; Louisville, KY; Kansas City, MO; and Lake Buena Vista, FL; with a final stop on August 31 at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg, FL. A pre-sale for the tour starts Wednesday, April 23 via the band’s website, so pick them up there before they hit the general public on Saturday, April 26.
Originally from South Bend, IN, Umphrey’s McGee’s music is commonly referred to as “progressive improvisation” or “improg”, for short. The band is technically a part of the jam band scene, but they take their influences from heavy metal bands such as Iron Maiden and Guns N’ Roses; progressive rock artists like Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa; and rock legends such as The Beatles, The Police, and Led Zeppelin. They’ve released seven studio albums, with an eighth, Similar Skin, set to be released on June 10, 2014. They’ve also released eight live albums and ten DVDs.
