With Green Day out of the mix at the Voodoo Music Experience, festival organizers have rebounded in a big way to fill the void. This past week it was announced that Metallica would be the replacement for Green Day, headlining the middle night of the three day festival on October 27.

In a statement released by the band, Lars Ulrich said, ““We are excited to be part of our first ever Voodoo Music & Arts Experience. Our good friends and fellow Bay Area residents Green Day had to unfortunately cancel their plans to be there, so we are more than happy to fill in for them in our own unique way. We’re hoping we can fill those very large shoes and do them proud.”

Green Day’s tour plans are still displaying the effects of Billie Joe Armstrong’s meltdown on stage during the iHeartRadio Festival in September. Having already postponed numerous promotional appearances in support of their latest album “¡Uno!” so Armstrong could seek rehabilitation, the band announced today that they will be backing out of their headlining gig at the Voodoo Music Experience on October 27.

“Canceling shows is something we rarely do,” Tré Cool said in a statement. “We never want to let our fans down, and we are grateful for all of you being understanding during this time.”

Tickets for the Voodoo Music Experience are on sale now. If a replacement headliner is named in place of Green Day, we’ll be sure to bring you the details.
