Wilco Announces ‘Wilco Winterlude’ in Chicago
American alt-rock legends Wilco are celebrating their 20th anniversary with the release of two archival box sets: Alpha Mike Foxtrot and What’s Your 20. The former is comprised of 77 rare studio and live recordings, while the latter is a greatest hits collection scraped from the band’s eight studio albums. Both are available now for pre-order. Also to commemorate their anniversary, Wilco has scheduled the Wilco Winterlude, a six-night residency at the Riviera Theatre in the band’s hometown of Chicago, IL. It will span from December 5 to 12 (except for December 10), and concertgoers are urged to bring toys and books to the show that will then be donated to children’s hospitals in the Chicago area. For ticketing and on-sale information, visit Wilco’s website.
Formed in 1994 by the remaining members of Uncle Tupelo, Wilco has released eight studio albums, all with Jeff Tweedy at the helm. They came to media attention for 2002’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot for some record label controversy—Reprise Records hated the album and dropped the band after hearing it. They then gave it to Wilco as part of a buy-out deal, and Wilco streamed it for free on their website. And you know what? Everyone loved it. (It was later sold to Nonsuch Records and distributed there). Their last full studio album, The Whole Love, was released in 2011.
