Yo La Tengo Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Tour, Reissue
Yo La Tengo’s classic album Painful was released a whopping 30 years ago, and the band is celebrating with a deluxe reissue of the album and a handful of anniversary shows. The reissue will be dubbed “Extra Painful” and will feature a ton of bonus material, including more than ten extra tracks (some previously unreleased), photos, liner notes, and more. You can preorder it now on the band’s website. The aforementioned tour starts off on October 29 at the State Theatre in Portland, ME. From Portland, the band will move to Burlington VT; New Orleans, LA; Vancouver, BC; Austin, TX (at Fun Fun Fun Fest); Washington, DC; and Philadelphia, PA. Tickets and further information are available on Yo La Tengo’s website.
Yo La Tengo (aka YLT) was formed in Hoboken, NJ, in 1984. Since 1992, their lineup has been steady, consisting of guitarist and vocalist Ira Kaplan, drummer and pianist Georgia Hubley, and bassist James McNew. The band has not achieved a great deal of commercial success, instead finding themselves a strong cult following and heaps of critical acclaim. Though they write a mean tune, the band is also known for their covers, performed both on their albums and on tour.
