Yonder Mountain String Band (aka YMSB) was formed by banjoist Dave Johnston and mandolinist Jeff Austin when the two were at Harvard University. Based now in Nederland, Colorado, the band has released five studio albums. The last, The Show, was released in 2009 and hit the top of the grass charts. The band maintains their own record label, Frog Pad Records. Railroad Earth, based in Stillwater, NJ, got their name from the Jack Kerouac short story “October in the Railroad Earth”. Their music combines elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, and jazz to form their unique sound.
