Zac Brown Band head out on their Out in the Middle Tour next month. While we expect the band to play music from their latest release, The Comeback, below are the top five songs we’d like to hear on their setlist.
“Chicken Fried”
For the summer BBQ, the beach road trip, the work commute on a warm day — “Chicken Fried” is a song designed to feel good. As the band’s first number-one hit, “Chicken Fried” is frontman Zac Brown asking the listener to be grateful for the simple things: “a mother’s love” or “the touch of a precious child.” He sings, “It’s funny how it’s the little things in life that mean the most.” If you’re looking for a feel-good, country-folk song, “Chicken Fried” is the winner.
“Knee Deep (feat. Jimmy Buffet)”
Starting off with a catchy finger-picked melody, Zac Brown sings “Gonna put the world away for a minute / pretend I don’t live in it.” “Knee Deep” is about escapism, wishing you were on a beach with the tide at your feet. And who’s a more perfect feature for a country-focused island song? Jimmy Buffet. Buffet and Brown spend the full 3:23 minutes with their heads in the clouds, dreaming of no worries. The song is for anyone stuck in the mundane needing some time off — who doesn’t relate?
“Toes”
Much like “Knee Deep,” “Toes” speaks of the same aspirations: sitting on the beach with no worries. Only this time, Zac Brown actually heads to the sea. Enjoying his time in the sun, Brown sings of playing guitar on the beach, surrounded by beautiful people, great drinks, and the endless coastline. “Toes” is a summer playlist staple if you’re a country music fan.
“Colder Weather”
For Zac Brown Band, it’s not shocking a song titled “Colder Weather” is a sad ballad. The first three songs on our list have a similar sound and feel: uptempo, warm, shimmery. “Colder Weather” is the opposite. The track showcases Zac Brown Band’s versatility and songwriting talent. While proving his vocal range, Brown also plants his status as a storyteller. If you’re looking for a slow-down, emotional track from Zac Brown Band, this is a great one to start with.
“Whatever It Is”
“Whatever It Is” feels like the perfect balance between all the above songs. It’s a heartwarming track about falling in love when it’s the last thing you expected. Zac Brown compliments his love interest throughout the track, singing, “Cause when she loves me I’m on top of the world / ‘Cause when she loves me, know I can live forever.” Whether or not you’re a country music fan, “Whatever It Is” will make you smile when you listen.
