Following these sessions will be exhibitions in those locations as well as overseas. To find out more general information about the Olympic team, visit the program’s official site.
UPDATE: Final Roster and Olympic Schedule
After two days of intense training at the Mendenhall Center at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, head coach Mike Krzyzewski and USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo have selected their final 12 players that will be traveling to London to represent the United States in the Olympic games. The roster looks like this:
G – Kobe Bryant – Los Angeles Lakers
G – Kevin Durant – Oklahoma City Thunder
G – James Harden – Oklahoma City Thunder
G – Chris Paul – Los Angeles Clippers
G – Russell Westbrook – Oklahoma City Thunder
G – Deron Williams – New Jersey Nets
G/F – Andre Iguodala – Philadelphia 76ers
F – Carmelo Anthony – New York Knicks
F – Blake Griffin – Los Angeles Clippers
F – LeBron James – Miami Heat
F – Kevin Love – Minnesota Timberwolves
C – Tyson Chandler – New York Knicks
Left off the team from the 15 Finalists who came to Las Vegas were Anthony Davis, Rudy Gay, and Eric Gordon. Davis had not participated much in Team USA workouts due to a sprained ankle he suffered in New Orleans. During the team selection show on Saturday night Coach K said that it was difficult to select Davis considering that he hadn’t proven himself in Las Vegas. Chris Bosh (strained abs), Dwyane Wade (upcoming knee surgery), and Lamar Odom (working with new team (Clippers) in LA) had all already pulled out from the preliminary roster before this weekend.
The final 12 on the Olympic roster include 5 veterans from the Gold medal-winning 2008 Beijing Olympic team (Anthony, Bryant, James, Paul, Williams) and 5 veterans from the Gold medal-winning 2010 World Championship team (Chandler, Durant, Iguodala, Love, Westbrook). The only two newcomers are Griffin and Harden.
