Daytona 500 2013 Date

To all our racing aficionados: The most prestigious race in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is almost here! Yes, that’s right — the Daytona 500 is upon us. The 55th annual event will take place on February 24 at Daytona International Speedway. Will Matt Kenseth defend his 2012 Haley J. Earl Trophy? Or will another group of racers be anxious to take his place? And will you have tickets to watch? (Of course you will – check out below.)

This year, Grammy-award winning musicians Zac Brown Band will perform at the Budweiser Pre-Race Show right before the “Great American Race” – that’s a whole day of entertainment.

What about the venue? The Daytona International Speedway, opened in 1959, is one of only six superspeedways to hold these NASCAR races (the others are Michigan, Auto Club, Indianapolis, Pocono, and Talladega, if you wanted to know). Daytona International Speedway is one of two (Talladega being the other) tracks in the series that requires cars to put on restrictor plates to slow them down – that’s fast! The track is 2.5 miles with banked turns measured at 31 degrees, and the whole Daytona 500 is 200 laps around. Specifications aside, this year’s race is shaping up to be a doozy – better look for your tickets now so you can be a part of the action.
