The American Rodeo will return to AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys) once again for the sixth year. Here’s everything you need to know about the “richest weekend in Western sports”–including how to score tickets!

When & Where is the 2019 American Rodeo?

The American is a two-day event that will take place on March 2-3, 2019. Saturday, the top 15 in each event will take place in the “long go” rodeo (the first round of the rodeo), which begins at 6:30 pm CST. Sunday, the “short go” will take place, which will feature the top eight athletes. Those eight will be narrowed down to four, who have a chance at winning one million dollars.

The American will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Home to the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium hosts some of the year’s biggest sporting events and houses up to 100,000 spectators. The stadium has held The American since its inaugural iteration back in 2014.

What is the American Rodeo?

Each year, The American is put on after a calendar year full of qualifying events. Referred to as the “richest weekend in Western sports,” the rodeo will pay out $2.35 million in a single weekend.

The rodeo brings together top athletes from the PRCA as well as riders who qualified through the Semi-Finals. These riders will all compete for one of the biggest paychecks in the sport.

How to Qualify for The American Rodeo

While the top PRCA riders receive invitations, most contestants must qualify for The American via the Semi-Finals, which are held at Fort Worth’s Cowtown Coliseum. The five-day competition sees over 700 riders and ropers hoping to make the finals and have the chance to compete for a $1 million purse. The top five that survive the semifinals advance to the American.
