In just over a month, we’ll have regular season NHL hockey back in our lives. After an extremely exciting 2017-18 season, the new hockey campaign can’t come soon enough. Let’s take a look at a few of the must-see matchups happening during the 2018-19 season.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Washington Capitals

October 4, 2018

How can you not get excited about a Penguins opening night game against the rival Washington Capitals? The Pittsburgh faithful couldn’t have been happy seeing Ovechkin and the Capitals win the Stanley Cup last season, especially considering they beat the Penguins on the route to the championship. Sidney Crosby’s squad will certainly look to wipe the smiles off Washington faces in their first meeting of the season.

Washington Capitals vs. Vegas Golden Knights

October 10, 2018

It’s a rematch of last season’s Stanley Cup Final. October 10 will mark the first time the Golden Knights will matchup with the Capitals after losing to them in five games. Vegas had to watch Alex Ovechkin and Washington hoist Lord Stanley’s Cup and that couldn’t have been an easy sight. The team entering just its second season will look to get the 2018-19 season off to a good start by beating the Caps in D.C.’s Capital One Arena.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. New York Islanders

December 29, 2018

No more John Tavares in New York. That certainly won’t be an easy pill to swallow for Islander fans once the season starts. It’ll be even worse when those fans watch New York take on Tavares and the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena. Just a few days after Christmas, the Islanders will hope to bring home a late Christmas present: a win against Tavares, Auston Matthews, and the rest of the young, speedy Maple Leafs.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Boston Bruins (Winter Classic)

January 1, 2019

Celebrate New Year’s 2019 with yet another Winter Classic featuring the Chicago Blackhawks. Chicago is looking to bounce back after its worst season of the decade and the franchise will look to get its first-ever Winter Classic win. Toews, Kane, and the rest of the Hawks will take on Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and the Boston Bruins in historic Notre Dame Stadium in Indiana.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (Coors Light Stadium Series)

February 23, 2019

For the second time in three seasons, the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins will face off in a Stadium Series game. In 2017, the exciting outdoor matchup took place in Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field, but in 2019, it’ll happen in Philly’s iconic Lincoln Financial Field.

Other Notable Games

Buffalo Sabres vs. Boston Bruins

October 4, 2018

This will likely be the debut for Buffalo’s #1 overall draft pick from earlier this year, Rasmus Dahlin. Much like McDavid, Matthews, Eichel and other high draft picks in recent years, you won’t want to miss Dahlin in his first NHL game.

NHL All-Star Game

January 26, 2019

The best thing for the NHL All-Star Game was moving to a division-based, 3-on-3 format. It’s made the games more exciting and fun, while also offering some great competition when the games get going. If you have a chance to get to San Jose’s SAP Center in January, we highly recommend that you do so.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Edmonton Oilers

February 27, 2019

It’s Auston Matthews vs. Connor McDavid. What more could you ask for from a regular season NHL game? It’s the first of only two opportunities you’ll have to see these two on the ice together, so don’t miss out.
