Kevin Love is back and up to his old ways. After starting the season on the disabled list due to a broken right hand, Love is now back to lead the new and improved Minnesota Timberwolves in their quest to return to the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2004.

In his 3 games played since coming back, Love is averaging 24.3 points per game and 14 rebounds per game, which would put him near the top in both categories. The Timberwolves are still not at full strength, as they wait for the return of point guard Ricky Rubio from the disabled list also. With a 5-7 record, they hope to get back on the winning side of that record and compete against the likes of the Thunder and Nuggets in the Northwest Division.

The Minnesota Timberwolves can’t buy good luck at this point. Having lost Ricky Rubio last year and into this season due to a torn ACL & MCL, the Timberwolves will now be without their superstar power forward Kevin Love for at least 6-8 weeks. Love broke his right hand while doing knuckle pushups during practice back on October 14 last week and will most likely miss the first two months of the 2012-2013 season. Thankfully for Love, the Timberwolves and their fans, Love will not need surgery to repair the damage.

Love is arguably the best forward in the game right now, the main reason why fans have come back to the Target Center to see the Timberwolves. WIth a revamped roster, they were hoping to get out of the gate fast until Rubio returned. Now they will have to wait for both to return and fans may stay away until that happens. We will see what effects Love’s injury has on ticket prices.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, who last year were having a solid rebound year before injuries derailed their quest to return to the playoffs, look to become a competitive force in the Western Conference this year with a healthy team and an influx of new veteran talent.

In the offseason the Timberwolves added Brandon Roy, looking to make a comeback, and Andrei Kirilenko to add to the existing mix of All Star Kevin Love, Ricky Rubio, JJ Barea and Nikola Pekovic. Rubio will start the season on the disabled list as he rehabs from the torn ACL and MCL he suffered in his rookie year, but there is enough firepower on this team to man the fort until he comes back.

The 2012-2013 season schedule for the Minnesota Timberwolves has them kicking off with a November 2 game against the Sacramento Kings. Other home game highlights in addition to their divisional play against the Jazz, Blazers, Thunder and Nuggets, include the Lakers on February 1 and March 27, the Knicks on February 8, the Heat on March 4 and the Celtics on April 1.
