Predictions for LA Galaxy vs. LAFC

Back on March 31 LAFC played at at Stubhub Center, home of the LA Galaxy. A hard-fought game saw the Galaxy take the first of three regular season matchups 4-3. After going down 3-0 the Galaxy fought back, scoring all four of their goals in the final 30 minutes, including an amazing win by Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the first minute of stoppage time.

With both teams having some stellar international players, including Ibrahimovic for the Galaxy and Carlos Vela for FC, expect the game in August to have a similar feel. There should be high quality play from both sides. The Galaxy had a great comeback performance in that first game against FC, but it’s been the play of the new franchise that has surprised many. LAFC has shown resilience, the ability to play as a team, and currently sits 2nd in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the Galaxy have struggled and are 10th in the West as of this writing.

Don’t expect the first home match for FC against the Galaxy to go the same way the game in March went. The team with the best start in the 20 years of MLS expansion teams has found a lot of scoring support from forwards Carlos Vela and Diego Rossi, while the back line that features Laurent Ciman and Steven Beitashour has proven to be difficult to get past over the last five games.

This writer expects LAFC, the 4th best team in the league in scoring, to come out on top against the Galaxy in Banc of California Stadium on July 26.
