2013-14 NBA Tickets

While the Miami Heat have been the top of the NBA class the last two seasons, it’s the NBA Western Conference that has annually produced the deepest lineup of competitive teams. A team or two from the NBA West often sports a better record than the mediocre qualifiers in the East; so even though they don’t have an NBA Finals title to show for the last couple of years, the West has an argument that it’s the best. The head of the class is the 2013 Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs, with Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli, and Tony Parker returning to finish what they started last season. The Memphis Grizzlies are the defensive stalwarts of the West and still searching for the offensive punch to put them over the top. Can their interior force find enough space thanks to new acquisition Mike Miller’s outside shooting? The OKC Thunder are trying to get back to full strength behind the leadership of NBA All Stars Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, but injuries may slow down a team considered to be the top contender for the NBA Western Conference championship last year.

While the Los Angeles Clippers have been challenging the reign of the Los Angeles Lakers for supremacy in the Pacific Division and their own building, the Staples Center, the Golden State Warriors have been assembling a young, exciting, all-out force on offense powered by Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. The LA Clippers upgraded the cast supporting Chris Paul and Blake Griffin this offseason via a trade with the Phoenix Suns and a new coach, and the Lakers are waiting for all-time great Kobe Bryant to return from a serious achilles injury. The veteran Clippers need to keep an eye out for the newest challenger, or the Warriors may pass both LA squads sooner than anyone expected.

Finally, the biggest free agent story of the offseason brought a sometimes dominating, sometimes confounding All-Star center named Dwight Howard to join forces with superstar guard James Harden for the Houston Rockets. Can this new duo challenge San Antonio and perennial power Dallas Mavericks to win the Southwest? What will the new look, wing-heavy New Orleans Pelicans have something to say about this?

Best NBA Western Conference Teams

San Antonio Spurs Tickets

San Antonio came up just short in an epic 2013 NBA Finals with Miami, and Tim Duncan’s back to try for another championship.

Oklahoma City Thunder Tickets

Kevin Durant had to carry his OKC teammates more than usual when Russell Westbrook injured his knee in 2013; he’ll start this season without his All Star point guard running mate, too.

Los Angeles Clippers Tickets

Chris Paul and Blake Griffin got a new coach in Doc Rivers and some roster depth to make a deeper 2013 NBA Playoff run and steal more fans away from the Los Angeles Lakers.

Houston Rockets Tickets

After making a big splash last season trading for James Harden, the 2013 Houston Rockets offseason had a bigger plunge by inking premier free agent Dwight Howard to a four-year contract (with a three-year opt out, which could lead to more drama, but let’s ignore that and enjoy what this team could be: exciting).
