NCAA Sweet Sixteen West Region Preview

The West Region of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is the one region that probably destroyed more brackets in tournament pools than any other. With #1 seed Gonzaga falling in the third round, #3 seed New Mexico losing to Harvard and LaSalle’s Cinderella story, the region was unpredictable – exactly why the tourney is a thing of beauty. The four teams headed to Los Angeles for a chance to reach the Elite Eight and then the Final Four are #2 Ohio State, #6 Arizona, #9 Wichita State and #13 LaSalle.

This sets up the match ups at the Staples Center between the #2 seed Ohio State Buckeyes and the #6 seed Arizona Wildcats and the #9 seed Wichita State Shockers and the #13 seed LaSalle Explorers. The winner of these two games will play for a chance to reach the Final Four in Atlanta.

Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes beat up on #15 seed Iona in the second round by a score of 95-70 and then won a tough battle with Iowa State in the third round by a score of 78-75.

Arizona Wildcats

The Wildcats beat #11 seed Belmont in the second round 81-64 and then took out #14 seed Harvard by a score of 74-51.

Wichita State Shockers

The Shockers made easy work of #8 Pittsburgh in the second round with a score of 73-55 and then upset #1 Gonzaga in the third round by a score of 76-70.

LaSalle Explorers

The Explorers won a play-in against Boise State by a score of 80-71. In the second round, their Cinderella run began with a victory against #4 Kansas State with a score of 63-61. They then beat #12 Mississippi in the third round by a score of 76-74.
