NHL Ticket Prices Mirror Record TV Viewership at the Start of the ’10-’11 Season
As the days get shorter and winter eeks closer, a recent article on NHL.com reports that more fans than ever are tuning into hockey games this year. TV viewership is up 16% over last year in the US. NHL Chief Operating Officer John Collins says, “Our fans worldwide have proven again and again that they have a voracious appetite for NHL content.”
Interestingly, this corresponds with the demand we recorded at the end of last season during the Stanley Cup, where the NHL surprisingly beat out the NBA in terms of average secondary ticket market prices (see the full analysis here: NHL Stanley Cup Finals Commanding Higher Prices than the NBA Finals).
