San Diego Padres Players 2013

The San Diego Padres had a season to forget in 2012. Finishing in fourth place in the National League West with a 76-86 record, they were never really in contention in their own division, never mind the greater National League.

The Padres’ lineup is spearheaded by Chase Headley, who had a breakout season in 2012 with a .286 record, 31 HR and 115 RBI while also leading the team in total hits and on-base-percentage. Other names of note in the Padres’ lineup include Carlos Quentin and Cameron Maybin, but Headley by far carries the offensive load for the team. The Padres’ pitching staff is led by the duo of Clayton Richard and Edinson Volquez, who had a combined 25-25 record last season.

The one notable pickup for the Padres was the signing of starting pitcher Freddy Garcia in the offseason. He’ll look to compete for a roster spot come Spring Training.
