Horse Racing Schedule 2013

Grab your sunhat, binoculars, and preferred classy alcoholic beverage, the ponies are in the gate, and the starting bell is about to chime on the height of the 2013 horse racing season. Though races are ran continuously through-out the year, springtime marks an important period in the horse racing season – the Triple Crown. This is a prestigious trio of U.S. races that sets the ponies apart from the horses. (Actually, height is what separates horses from ponies, but we don’t need to get technical…). The first race is the Kentucky Derby, which will be held on May 3rd in Churchill Downs, Kentucky. The next jewel in the crown, The Preakness, is run two weeks later (May 18th) at the Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore, Md. The series of races ends, as all great things do, in New York at Belmont Park with the running of the The Belmont Stakes on June 8th.

Other, colder, tracks don’t open until later. In fact, Saratoga Springs doesn’t have its opening day until July 19th…aka unimaginably warm and far away from now. It’s never too soon to dream though…

Still not sure if racing is for? My next suggestion is to throw on a some excessively large sunglasses, a huge hat, and sit in your room drinking cocktails alone while listening to Lana Del Ray‘s track “Off to the Races”…if that doesn’t inspire you I don’t know what will.
