Army-Navy Football Ticket Prices Up 12%
Ticket Demand for Army – Navy Football Game
An annual matchup so heralded that it gets its very own weekend, this year’s Army-Navy game in Philadelphia is fetching the highest average ticket price ($169) in four years. The Navy Midshipmen are currently in the middle of an unprecedented winning streak in the rivalry, victorious in 11 straight, the last eight of which have come after they tied the all-time series with the Black Knights in 2004. The Army-Navy game has rotated between many stadiums over the decades, but since 2003 it’s been held primarily at Lincoln Financial Field with occasional changes to Baltimore (2007) and Landover, MD (2011). This year at “The Linc,” upper-deck seats are averaging $129, lower-level tickets are averaging $236, and standing-room only passes are offering the cheapest option at an average of $76.

Army, which has only had one winning season since its 10-2 1996 campaign, generally treats this season finale versus the Midshipmen as the hallmark of its season. Navy, on the other hand, has earned a postseason bowl bid in ten of the last 11 seasons, including this year. Those postseason games are important – this year they’ll be playing in the Armed Forces Bowl against Middle Tennessee State on 12/30 – but they still are nothing compared to this storied rivalry with their military brethren. Fans wishing to take part in the pageantry at the last minute can actually take advantage of a recent decline in ticket prices this year. Despite the overall rise compared to previous years, the cheapest seat prices for the 2013 Army-Navy game have dropped to just $61 in the end zone section of the upper deck. Lower-level seats on the 20 yard line have dropped to $150, a particularly good deal when you consider some fans have already spent $600 on lower-level seats at midfield.
Regardless of this slight decline as the game approaches, the Army-Navy rivalry still compares vary favorably in ticket demand when you consider some of the most prestigious bowl games. This season’s game’s average price of $169 is higher than notable (and warmer!) postseason matchups including the Orange Bowl ($164), Outback Bowl ($162), Alamo Bowl ($161) and Capital One Bowl ($153). The men taking the field for these two squads are the rarest kind of football players: true warriors who know what it means to sacrifice personal needs for a larger cause, far beyond the metaphors often associated with the game. Fans able to snag a ticket to the rivalry game and watch along with the players’ brothers and sisters in arms are fortunate to be a part of one of the longest rivalries in football and one of the greatest partnerships in the US. While the Black Knights and Midshipmen will play for 60 minutes to earn a year’s worth of bragging rights, the two rosters will rejoin in a common cause to play for us all when it’s time to put on their real uniform as members of our Armed Forces.
