Texas Longhorns Football Details

Hook ‘em, Horns! You should learn the lingo – and the hand signal – if you’re going to attend a game in Austin.

The Texas Longhorns football program was founded in 1893 and has been winning ever since, ranking among the nation’s leaders in all-time victories. The school has won dozens of conference titles, along with four national championships. After 80 years in the Southwest Conference, Texas moved into the Big 12 in 1996.

The list of accomplished Longhorn players is seemingly endless. They’ve had 60 consensus All-America selections, and a couple of Heisman Trophy winners in Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams. The Longhorn coaching tree includes College Football Hall of Famers Dana Bible and Darrell Royal.

The Longhorns count Big 12 foes Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech as in-state rivals, but the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma is circled on every Texas fan’s schedule. The Sooners and Longhorns first met in 1900, with Dallas playing host since 1929.

Speaking of Royal, Texas plays its home games at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. The facility holds just over 100,000 fans, making it one of the 10 largest in the world.

One great sight to see at a Texas game is Bevo, the school’s mascot. This Texas longhorn bull weighs a ton – literally.

If you’re planning to tailgate, there are a few options for which you can purchase single-game admission, and some fans recommend that approach over starting your own tailgate. You can be welcomed into someone else’s event, with improved chances if you’re wearing burnt orange. And cowboy boots.

They say everything is bigger in Texas, and that goes for Longhorn games. Get your Texas football tickets now!
