Texas Rangers Details
After winning the most games in the American League in 2016, the Texas Rangers entered 2017 with one single goal in mind: winning a World Series title. Fortunately, they’re one of the few teams with the talent to actually do it. Baseball’s favorite duo of Adrian Beltre and Elvis Andrus is back to clown around on the left side of the infield, not to mention hit over .300 at the plate. Along with Mike Napoli and Rougned Odor, Beltre is part of a 3-4-5 combination that hit 99 combined home runs in 2016. Still not enough power for you? Catcher Jonathan Lucroy and right fielder Nomar Mazara each also topped 20 dingers last season. With a pitching rotation that’s helmed by aces Cole Hamel and Yu Darvish, the Rangers find themselves with perhaps that most balanced rosters in Major League Baseball.
The Rangers have made their home in Arlington, Texas, ever since the Washington Senators moved there in 1971 and adopted a more regionally appropriate team name. In 2020, a new park will open up for the Rangers in Arlington. But for now, the team is in Globe Park Stadium, a facility that has been bolstered by renovations to scoreboards and other technology in recent years. It’s certainly a great place if you like watching home runs—and who doesn’t—as swirling winds tend to lift fly balls beyond the field’s shorter fences. (Those winds also come in handy on those trademark Texas 100-degree days.) Last but not least, Globe Park is known for producing some of the most outrageous concessions in all of baseball, offering up state fair-inspired culinary creations for those with larger appetites.
