About The Constantines
Rejoice, fans of The Constantines! The band is back… and not a moment too soon.
It's been four long years since The Constantines celebrated their 10th anniversary with a tour of southwestern Ontario. But shortly thereafter, keyboardist Will Kidman left the band. Combined with Bryan Webb's decision to move from his home in Montreal back to Guelph, the Constantines decided it was time for the band to slow down.
During the hiatus, all five members of the band dispersed to different places and different projects. Webb wrote songs and released a solo album. Steve Lambke another Baby Eagle album in the works, Kidman recorded his own material and drummer Doug MacGregor toured with City and Colour.
It wasn't until February 14th of this year that the rumor mill churned into overdrive and the Constantines finally revealed they would be reuniting for several live shows leading up to the 11th anniversary of the release of their "Shine a Light" album. That project, called a "gritty masterpiece" by the Ottawa Sun, was ranked as one of the year's best rock albums and the first to be released outside Canada. It was also credited as the catalyst for extensive tours by the band outside of North America.
Since reforming to play a few shows this summer, The Constantines have not slowed down. They recently wrapped up a series of gigs across Canada, including stops at the Peterborough Folk Festival and the Arboretum Festival. "Shine a Light" also got an LP reissue on vinyl back in June. It came packaged with a 7" featuring three bonus tracks.
