Tim McGraw Details
What are the chances that a baseball player at Northeast Louisiana University goes on to be a star. Oh, not a star baseball player, mind you—a country music star. That’s the story of Tim McGraw, who first picked up a guitar in college before going on to not only become a country star, but arguably the country star of the ’90s and ’00s. After an overlooked debut album, McGraw quickly found stardom with his sophomore effort, 1994’s Not a Moment Too Soon. The album not only topped the country charts but the U.S. charts at large, thanks to hit singles like “Don’t Take the Girl” and “Down on the Farm.” By the time his third album came around—All I Want in 1995—country music fans couldn’t wait to get their hands on it. The album reached No. 4 on the U.S. charts and single “I Like It, I Love It” became a country music all-timer.
McGraw’s subsequent tour wasn’t career-defining, but it was, in some ways, life-defining: Soon after it was over, he married fellow country star Faith Hill, who had joined him for the tour. Today, the two remain the most powerful couple in all of country music. Since then, McGraw’s career hasn’t really slowed down. He has released a remarkable nine No. 1 country albums and a ridiculous 23 No. 1 country singles, including classics like “It’s Your Love” (featuring Hill), “Live Like You Were Dying” and “Felt Good on My Lips.” In November 2015 he released his most recent album, Damn Country Music.
