Virginia Tech Hokies Football Details
Located in Blacksburg, Virginia, the Virginia Tech Hokies have one of the best home-field advantages in the nation. Worsham Field at Lane Stadium has become a household venue for Thursday night games since 2001, although there won’t be any in 2017. Still, fans should expect to see some thrillers this season and we know they’ll be as rowdy as ever when their team takes the field. The program is in great hands right now, as head coach Justin Fuente is one of the best young coaches in the nation. Heading into the 2017 season, Fuente has a career record of 36-27 as a head coach. He turned around Memphis’ program before going 10-4 in his first season with Virginia Tech in 2016. Fuente’s new job is to lead the Hokies to their first national championship victory in school history. He’s seemingly the perfect guy to follow the legendary Frank Beamer.
The guy that makes this Virginia Tech offense go is Travon McMillian. The junior is one of the most under-appreciated backs in the country, and he is absolutely unstoppable for this Hokies team. McMillian rushed for 1,713 yards and 14 touchdowns in his first two years with the team, but he has a much bigger role now that quarterback Jerod Evans moved on to the pros. The strength of this team is, however, the defense. The Hokies have one of the best secondaries in the ACC, and both Brandon Facyson and Adonis Alexander could very well be playing on Sundays in the future. They make life extremely difficult on opposing quarterbacks, and their ability to shut own their matchups is game-changing.
